Jon’s fish report from Buck’s Hardware Hank:
It’s trout time! Everyone seems to be looking for lakers. We’ll get right to it then…
Most of the action seems to be in the 25- to 40-foot range. Old standbys Daniels and Duncan were reporting decent action, nothing huge. Clearwater is always a good place to pick up a couple of fish. Also, Kemo and Seagull lakes are doing pretty well.
For splake, Bogus, Musquash and Esther lakes have been producing in 12 to 20 feet of water. Waxies and salted minnows are the baits being used most. Don’t forget the Rainbows.
More important, new licenses will be available this year from the DNR. Check out their website or come on down and we can figure out the new combinations together. There will be a “Super Sportsman” license, available to both individuals and couples which will include fishing, small game with the appropriate state stamps included, along with a deer tag (which will be available to those people to pick up after Aug. 1), all on one license.
There are other new choices for both residents and nonresidents. Most prices went up as expected, but again, more choices are available. However, if one checks out the youth licenses, one can see the state trying to encourage younger hunters and fishers both in our state and out. So, try and read up on the choices and we’ll muddle through the process together.
Up the trail at Trail Center, the fishing contest continues until March 31. The leaders are the same in all categories as last week, however there is a new entry for walleye. Kristie Batz is in the lead with a nice 19 ½-inch walleye.
Get your fish in to Trail Center to be weighed and you could be the winner of a fabulous prize. What is the prize? Sarah at Trail Center said it is “whatever I can afford!”
