The latest from Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank:
How about some snow? Well, we finally got nailed and now we’re digging out. The fishing, however, goes on!
Walleye fishing outside the Boundary Waters ends in a couple of weeks so I’d head out soon. Birch Lake was throwing out a few walleyes to some folks but I heard better success on the splake in that lake. Sag and Seagull, almost always productive, produced a few too.
Lakers on Moss and Mayhew lakes were decent and a few were also caught on Greenwood as well. Old standbys such as Clearwater and West Bearskin are there waiting patiently to reap the harvest. Reap, I tell you…if a limit of two is reaping.
Rainbows are hitting well, I’ll give the regular spots like Kimball, Mink, and Trout lakes, but the action has been spotty. However, head to those special, less fished rainbow lakes now and you might be very pleased.
Good luck everyone and keep an eye out for slush. With all the snow we got this past week I figure there’ll be plenty to contend with soon.
The fishing action has picked up and Trail Center Lodge has some entries in the winter fishing contest. At press time Sarah at Trail Center said the following fishermen were in the lead:
Brook trout Gary Brumberg 17”
Lake trout Sherri Donek 25 “
Splake Twinkie 17”
Northern Gary Brumberg 25”
Whitefish Nathan Clay 29½”
All legal winter species caught in inland lakes may be entered. The contest ends March 1, 2013 and Sarah said, “The prizes will be whatever I can afford.”
