Where are the fish biting?

Above: A father and son who are camping stopped in at the Sagonto Resort dock on Monday, August 27 and asked to borrow a fish scale. They were trolling on the big lake of Saganaga in 80 feet of water and caught a nice lake trout. Scott Welch, 14, also caught this 10-pound 5-ounce walleye. He and his dad Greg were thrilled but when they tried to release the fish were saddened that it was too injured by the hook to survive. The big fish then became a delicious walleye dinner!

Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank reports…

Walleyes in McFarland Lake were active in the 12- to 20- foot range. Crawler rigs and jigs tipped with crawlers were the bait of choice for anglers trolling along weed edges.

East Twin showed a little promise fishing with jigs and minnows in 8 to 15 feet and Devil Track was still showing some signs of life as people were trolling with Rapalas in 10 to 15 feet or so.

The smallmouth bass are doing well in Devil Track as well, so be ready for that action.

Hungry Jack showed promise with smallies in 10 to 15 feet with crawlers and bobbers as well as some spinning action. But anywhere you choose, when it comes to the smallies, you should have pretty good luck.

Lake Superior has calmed a little from the previous weeks but some salmon are still being caught, though most of the action is for lake trout.
