Where are the fish biting?





According to the fishermen stopping by Buck’s Hardware in Grand Marais, walleyes have been found in Cascade Lake in 15 feet of water using a jig and minnow; in Elbow Lake in 8 feet of water off the weed lines using a jig and minnow and in Crescent Lake in 15 feet of water using a jig and minnow.

 

 

Lake trout are being caught in Rose Lake in 42 feet of water using a jig and minnow; in South Lake in 55 – 58 feet of water using frozen ciscoes; in Loon Lake in 40 – 45 feet of water using a jig and minnow and in Daniels Lake in 38 – 40 feet of water using a jig and minnow.

A few anglers have caught rainbow trout in Kimball Lake in 20 feet of water using waxies.

The fishermen stopping by Mike’s Holiday in Grand Marais are much more secretive, however one person reports that good numbers of lake trout are being caught on Honeymoon Reef on Lake Saganaga

The Trail Center Fishing Contest continues with a number of nice fish caught last week. Don Storlie brought in a 27-inch lake trout on January 23. On the 28th, Ben Larson showed off his 11-inch crappie. Two nice lake trout came in on January 30, a 20-inch lake trout caught by Paddy Wagon and a 38 ¾-inch lake trout caught by Eli Hill.

The Trail Center contest continues until March 31, 2010. Bring in your walleye, northern, splake, lake trout or whatever you catch to enter!
