The industrial arts teacher’s surprise resignation in the middle of the school year, and the response of the school board make it difficult to decide which is more disappointing.
The teacher has demonstrated a total disregard for his students; has invited questions about his character and failed to fulfill his contractual obligations. This is an abysmal role model for the kids.
The school board has compounded the problem by its spineless, short-sighted response to his resignation. By releasing him from his contract they pave the way for any future teacher to abandon his or her post without consequences.
Where are the adults in all this?
Thank God charter schools and home schooling provide alternatives.
