Each month in preparation of publishing the Senior Center newsletter, my staff and I sit down to put together the menu and activity calendar for the new month. As we were pondering April’s menu, a light bulb went off and I thought let’s incorporate recipes from the last Cook County’s Senior Cooks Cookbook into our menus. We have many fabulous cooks and bakers in this county. Beginning in April we have added some of our fabulous cook’s recipes to our menus.
Our cook Ann had the task of picking out the recipes from the cookbook and she picked out a nice variety of new recipes to try. I added the names of the cook or baker to the menu also and shared recipes in our newsletter. We hope Senior Center visitors enjoy this new menu offering.
Have a recipe to share?
Do you have a favorite recipe in your collection that you would like to share and possibly have incorporated into our monthly menu next month? Bring it by the Senior Center! We will try within our budget to use the new recipes.
If you are currently getting Meals on Wheels and would like to share a recipe, you can give the recipe to your driver to bring to us.
Treat Feasts are another way to share lunch ideas. A Treat Feast is a lunch that we would not ordinarily have due to our budget, but would be more like a treat. Treat Feast lunches we have had in the past have been baby back ribs, roast beef, and a ham dinner sponsored by the Grand Marais State Bank.
Businesses or individuals are welcomed to sponsor a Treat Feast. How? One or two people can sponsor a meal by providing the meat option of the meal. The Center provides the rest of the meal. Dollar amounts vary by what the choice of the treat is. For more information on sponsoring a Treat Feast, contact us at the Senior Center!
