I enjoyed reading Garry Gamble’s article last week asking what happened to virtue in politics. As Garry pointed out our founders believed that virtue was necessary in government’s high offices, pointing out that President Washington believed in personal morality and by living according to moral standards.
I doubt Washington would approve of someone who cheated on all three of his wives, two of whom he divorced because he wanted another one, cheated the students at his self-named University, filed for bankruptcy protection to avoid paying his contractors, and makes up facts to suit himself with no regard to the truth.
And this is not to even mention his allies who have been convicted of crimes or resigned under pressure for corruption.
Since our founders wouldn’t support him, I don’t think we should either.
