Containing one’s excitement for the upcoming West End Garden Show might be hard, but it’s only four Saturdays away. On July 22 Schroeder Town Hall will be filled with the sweet fragrance of flowers from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This year’s theme is “Contain It.”

At 82 years, the club continues to grow and flower.

Formed in 1935, the club has been going strong since. “We have 60 members and always welcome anyone to join,” said Judy Brisky, club member and publicity chair for this year’s event.

The first theme of the flower show in 1935 was “Ring Around a Posie.”

The flower show is held annually, with members including the public invited to bring their arrangements to be displayed for the show.

Refreshments are served at no charge. Although this is not a fundraiser, donations are accepted.

The Garden Club does maintain the three local cemeteries, plus Lutsen Park and Birch Grove School.

If you would like to learn more about the club, Brisky said, “We have lovely old scrapbooks with pictures dating back to the early 1940s, maintained by our historians and kept at Cross River Historical Center.”
