Wes (Wesley) Morris

Wes (Wesley) Morris, 76, of Schroeder, went on to find better fishing on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2017 surrounded by family at the North Shore Hospital in Grand Marais. He fought a brave battle against lung cancer for nine years and was considered a miracle by his doctors.

Wes was able to fight most of this battle in the comfort of his own home with his wife and best friend Linda watching his birds at the feeder, surrounded by his beloved and spoiled puppies.

Born and raised in Cook and Lake counties, Wes enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 to “see the world.” He served proudly for 20 years and retired to Schroeder in 1978. Beyond his family, Wes loved nature and anything outdoors. He knew the North Woods like the back of his hand and spent his spare time enjoying canoeing and fishing, exploring and deer hunting. Many stories have been told about his adventures.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bob and Bud; beloved cousin Larry Johnson; wife and mother of his children, Brenda; and daughter Launi Lei.

Wes is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda; daughters Michelle (Frank) Zaiger and Tammi (Averron) Matter, grandchildren Amanda Jo, Jeffrey, Dylan, Jeremy and Shane; great-grandchildren Riley and Mykayla; and a wealth of family and friends.

Wes’s easy smile and warm personality were known by so many and he was vibrant and charming right to the end. We celebrate his wonderful life and feel honored to have known this amazing man.

A memorial celebration will be held at the Schroeder Town Hall from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. Please come and share your memories.

A special thanks goes out to the West End First Responders, ambulance crews and the North Shore Hospital doctors and nurses for all you did with such love.
