Spring fever has arrived at North Shore Living, and the residents are getting anxious to get outdoors and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine. Hopefully, the snow banks will all disappear so we can start planning our garden spaces on the patio. The residents have come up with some good ideas over the winter months. While we wait for winter to release its grasp, we have plenty of fun indoor activities planned for April.
The residents will be doing some Easter crafting, along with a colorful flower craft planned for Earth Day on April 22. We all remember how much fun it is to color Easter eggs, and we’ll be doing that on Saturday April 20. The more eggs we color, the more egg salad we’ll have on Monday, April 22—National Egg Salad Day!
We will be honoring Trudy Boyd, Judith Duhaime, Shirley Hewitt, Mary Meyers, and Anna Speck at the April birthday party to be held on April 10 at 3 p.m. Cake and ice cream will be served, and the talented Doug Sanders will be here to play our favorite piano tunes. Friends and family are welcome to join the celebration.
A fun-filled afternoon is planned for Saturday, April 13, when artist and author Tim Young will pay us a visit to share his artwork and stories.
An outing is planned for April 18 to visit our friends at the Senior Center, and enjoy a delicious lunch with them.
WISE (formally Lioness Club) will host a social time with the residents on Saturday, April 20 at 2:30 p.m. We always look forward to the delicious desserts they bring!
There will be plenty of music in April too. Harris Mills will be here on Monday, April 1 at 2 p.m. Olya Wright, a talented young musician, will be here to play her violin on Tuesday, April 2 at 3 p.m. On Monday, April 8 at 2 p.m., Pastor Daren Blanck will host a gospel sing-along. The high school choir will be here to perform on April 17 at 2 p.m.
Amy Schmidt and friends will bring their musical talent to North Shore Living on Monday, April 29 at 2 p.m., and Portage Band will be here for a dance on Saturday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. Myron Bursheim will perform on Sunday afternoons, and Susan Scherer on Wednesday afternoons in April. Family and friends are always welcome to join us for any of our music events.
April 7-13 marks national Volunteer Week—a time to recognize the efforts of volunteers at local, state, and national levels. The residents and staff at North Shore Living wish to thank our many dedicated volunteers for all the extraordinary things they do. They bring their many talents, time, and companionship to us all year long, and are a vital part of the Activity Department programming. There will be a volunteer appreciation brunch held in May to celebrate and honor our volunteers.
For more information about volunteer opportunities at North Shore Health Care Center or to check out the April calendar of events, visit our website: www.northshorehealthgm.org or contact the Activity Department at 387-3518. Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we will offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens.
