Zoar Lutheran Church in Tofte has held two community suppers so far, and the turnout has been splendid, said Pastor Darren Blanck.
“We had 22 people come out the first Wednesday and 36 the next week,” he said.
The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and goes to 7 p.m. There is a short sermon to start things off, and then Dave Gustafson plays his guitar and leads people in singing.
“This isn’t a fundraiser,” said Blanck. “We are trying to find ways to bring the community together. One thing we are doing is encouraging young people to attend. Community, like a church, is healthiest when it has a healthy mix of young and old people,” said Pastor Blanck.
The dinners are held in the church basement. A good will offering is taken, “But I want to stress that people don’t need to contribute unless they want to. We aren’t trying to raise funds through this.”
The Wednesday Community Soup Suppers will continue until Easter, said Pastor Blanck.
“I hope more people turn out. This time together is an excellent way to know each other. It’s a great way for us to grow together as a community.”
