Wednesday afternoon curling

What started with a small group of “senior” curlers a few years ago has become a regular fixture at the Cook County Curling Club. Most of the group uses the “stick” curling delivery (similar to shuffleboard), as it is kinder to aging knees. There are no established teams or standings, so we are divided into teams of 2, 3 or 4 at the beginning of each session, mixing new and veteran men and women for the day.

Practice and instruction begins at 1 p.m., teams are formed at 1:15 p.m. and we play a 6 end game that ends about 3 p.m. Everybody gets to play, sweeping is optional and newcomers are always welcome.

Your first two sessions are free. Club equipment is provided. Players are required to use clean rubber soled shoes. Snowbirds welcomed, as there are no long-term commitments.

With the new LED lighting installed by the county and ice making equipment purchased by the club, we now have a fantastic playing environment. The rink is located at Cook County Community Center, just west of the YMCA. Carpools are available from the West End.

For more information, stop in on a Wednesday or call Jim King 663-7409, Joanne Smith 387-2052, or Dave Jansen 218-248-5851.
