Everyone has been talking about the weather, so how appropriate that Cook County Higher Education’s first Guest Lecture of the year should be about weather!
Carol Christenson will present What will the Summer Bring for Weather? on Thursday, May 23, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Higher Ed’s North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.
Christenson is a warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth. She is responsible for communicating with National Weather Service customers to ensure their needs are being met. She also directs the office’s preparedness program to ensure timely information is communicated well. She conducts public safety and other outreach events to ensure that people react correctly to NWS warnings. As she loves talking about the weather, a favorite part of her job is speaking with and to people of all ages.
Christenson received a B.S. in meteorology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has been with the NWS for 29 years and has worked at various weather offices in the Midwest. As an amateur radio operator she volunteers annually for Grandma’s Marathon.
The Guest Lecture series of Cook County Higher Education is offered to the community free, although donations are appreciated. The series is sponsored by the Grand Marais State Bank, Drury Lane Books, George F. Maruska Ltd., the Lake Superior Trading Post, Como Oil & Propane, Sawbill Outfitters, and WTIP. Refreshments are donated by Beth’s Fudge and Gifts and Johnson’s Foods.
