Let me see if I understand the author’s position regarding mass murderers in the April 21st letter “Are you smarter than a 12th grader?”
Rather than holding the perpetrator responsible for his evil deeds, we should blame the weapon’s manufacturer and seller. That makes all the sense in the world, and is a concept that should be applied broadly.
Mass murderers in Oklahoma City and Toronto have shown the Ryder rental trucks to be a “weapon of choice” for their atrocities. Clearly, such things should be banned.
We should also include U-Haul rentals since they are functionally identical. Note that both are registered with the state, and their users are licensed.
Another “common sense” approach would be to ban whatever make and model vehicle was involved. I really think that he’s onto something here. We should find out what brand of knife Richard Speck used when he murdered eight nursing students in Chicago.
Clearly, such things should not be available to common citizens.
Oh, the possibilities are endless!
