It often appears that we forget what a neat community we are part of, and we get all torqued out over some of the small things. Basically we are reasonably safe, we are neighbors and friends helping each other where we can, our local government, hospital, and school system are doing their best with the resources we have, and we wake up each day to the morning songs of our birds. Many would call this a great quality of life.
One of our real bright spots is the support we give our nonprofits that all strive to give helping hands where they can. A new initiative of the Cook County Community Fund (CCCF) is a challenge grant—the goal is to raise $25,000 toward their annual fundraising effort. Present and past board members have personally chipped in half this amount as their challenge to the community, and the community fund is now seeking contributions to match this so the $25,000 goal can be met.
Last year the CCCF was able to fund a scholarship, plus $18,000 to other nonprofits for projects helping our senior citizens, our children’s dental program, Art Colony, music programs, special youth programs and much more.
