Water Plan revision discussion March 10

Management of environmental resources throughout the county is done in different ways, by different plans and various agencies. The plans used are guidance documents for management of the resources.

In Cook County, the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is the local government unit responsible for the local water management plan. The intent of this plan is to provide strategies to address water related issues, both protection and restoration in Cook County. Currently, the Cook County Water Management Plan is nearing the completion of the final stages of revision to be adopted this summer. In this revision, local citizens have helped identify conservation management needs and identified actions to accomplish to manage water resources.

The Water Plan Advisory Committee, made up of six Cook County residents, one county commissioner, one Soil and Water Conservation District board member, and the Water Plan coordinator meet regularly for the revision of the plan and to ensure actions are being completed within the plan. The purpose of the Water Plan Advisory Committee (WAC) is to provide guidance to the Water Plan Coordinator for the implementation of the Water Management Plan.

A conversation will be held to present the water plan and its role in protecting water quality. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. March 10 at the North House Folk School. A light meal will be served prior to the meeting.

Pre-registration is requested but not required to Ilena Berg at 387-3648.
