Water plan meeting set for May 13

Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District is in the final stages of revising the Cook County Comprehensive Water Plan, and a public comment meeting will be held at 4:30 p.m. May 13 at the courthouse.

The plan, when adopted, will be good for 10 years and a revision will take place in five years.

The Water Plan Advisory Committee has identified five priorities in the plan to focus on in regard to water management in the county: education, impaired water resources, land use and development impact on watersheds (including wetlands and stormwater), sub-surface sewage treatment systems, and surface and groundwater monitoring. These concerns were identified through community and agency input. The plan will be used as a guidance document for future work.

Within the plan there is an implementation schedule, identifying goals, objectives, actions, cost, watersheds, outcomes, lead agencies, and possible partners.
