Water monitors appreciated

On behalf of the staff and supervisors of the Cook County Soil and Water Conservation District, I would like to extend a warm and grateful thank you to the Coalition of Lake Associations (CoLA) and the numerous individuals who made the Citizen Lake Monitoring Program a success this year.

All the people who recreate on the lakes of Cook County are in the debt of these volunteers whose bimonthly forays onto their assigned lakes add to the body of knowledge about lake quality. Their efforts make water quality testing affordable and more ubiquitous than if it were only done by agency staff. Thelakes tested for total phosphorus content (plant food) and chlorophyll-a (algae growth) were: Agnes, Devil Track, Flour, Greenwood, Gunflint, Ward, Pike, East Bearskin, Elbow, Gust, Leo, McFarland, and Tom. Also, I would like to thank the Caribou, Deeryard and Poplar Lake associations who find this program valuable enough to run and finance without the help of a grant.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for giving your time and energy to monitor and protect our lakes.
