Water advisory for the Grand Marais Campground and Temperance State Park beaches

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) placed Beaches at the Grand Marais campground and Temperance River State Park under water advisory this past week.

Due to high E.coli bacteria levels, the MDH is advising the public to have no water contact at the Grand Marais Campground beach and on the south side of the mouth of Temperance River.

E. Coli is often produced from the waste of ducks, geese and other animals. It can cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps and other illnesses in people. If anyone becomes ill after contact with beach water, contact the Minnesota Department of Health by calling 1-877-366-3455.

To check on area beaches go to the Minnesota Lake Superior Beach Monitoring web site at www.MNBeaches.org.
