Warmer weather means fun trips for seniors

It’s time to start travelling again, as the weather warms up and the roads are dry. Join us locally, as we go for lunch to the Harbor House on April 18 at 11:30 a.m. Our lunch trips for May will take us to the Wunderbar and Raven Rock Grill (watch for upcoming information).

Working with quilters in the community, I heard their desire to travel to the Minnesota Quilter’s show in St. Cloud and planned an overnight trip for June 14-16. Our genealogy group has heard about the Iron Range Research Center in Chisholm and a trip is planned to visit there and the Minnesota Discovery Center May 17-19. If you would like more information about the trips please call me at the Senior Center 218-387-2660 (space is limited).

The Vision Loss group has been meeting quarterly at the Senior Center throughout the winter, however beginning in May the group will once again meet the third Thursday of every month until October. The next meeting will be on May 17 at 1:30 p.m.

A group of locals gathered at the Cook County Senior Center recently to engage in a game of Pictionary. Above, Tom Hedstrom is at the drawing board while his playing partners from L-R: Linda Johnson, Nona Smith, Bev Green in back, Patsy Smith, Gladys Anderson and Theresa Morrison try to guess what Tom, no Vincent Van Gogh, is attempting to draw.

“Fairy Gardens” will be presented at the Senior Center with Diane Booth on May 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. Put together a medium sized fairy garden for $30 (includes plants and base). Call the Senior Center by May 1 to register so we can order supplies. Perhaps this would be a good family activity (grandparent/ child or parent/child – all ages welcome). Prior to that date, you will notice a two-part accessory class to make different things for the fairy garden. This class is not mandatory, as you can find lovely accessories in town at Beth’s Fudge and Gifts. Cook County has a vibrant and active community of elders. Each week we offer Senior News to highlight our senior citizens. This week’s submission is about the Cook County Senior Center, courtesy of Programs and Service Coordinator Kim Nelson.
