According to Point-in-Time Count, on a single night in January 2018, just over 37,800 veterans were experiencing homelessness. Of those counted on that January day, 23,300 veterans were living with no shelter on the street.
And while one is too many, the country’s service members who are in need of an assortment of help, first need to stay alive through Minnesota’s cold winter. That’s where Help-A-Vet comes in, and your part as well through American Auxiliary Units 413’s efforts.
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 413 members are once again collecting warm clothing for Help-A-Vet, a nonprofit group from Minneapolis that works with Twin Cities homeless veterans.
Help-A-Vet seeks items such as winter coats, winter boots, socks, long johns, sweatshirts new men’s underwear, backpacks, travel-sized toiletries, and sleeping bags.
If you would like to help our local auxiliary collect warm clothing homeless veterans could use, bring your donation (new or gently used) to Grandma Ray’s (the former American Legion) in Grand Marais on Monday, November 11.
