Wallace R. Leinberger,

98, Grand Marais, died Sunday, August 26, 2012 in the Cook County North Shore Hospital.

He was born March 3, 1914 to Frank and Mary Viola (Menzie) Leinberger in Tustin, California.

As a child he moved to Elizabeth, Colorado, where he grew up and graduated from high school.

After operating a grain elevator in Elizabeth and working in a Civilian Conservation Corps camp in Colorado Springs, he moved to Denver, married Helena Burns in 1939, and was employed by Westinghouse Electric as a shipping clerk, repairman, and shop foreman.

In 1950 he was transferred to St. Louis, Missouri as a service engineer, and later worked in 40 of the lower 48 states installing generator plants, hydraulic units, and a “little bit of everything.” He retired to Grand Marais in 1975.

Wallace was a member of the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed gardening, furniture building and repair, snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helena, a son Lynn and brothers Albert and Emerson.

Wallace is survived by a son Gary (Chris) of Westby, Wisconsin; grandchildren Russell, Patrick, Alicia, Blake and Jessica; greatgrandchildren Matthew, Madison, Lucia, Maiela and Zirelia; a niece Carolyn Larick; and two nephews John Leinberger and Stewart (Audrey) Christie.
