A walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth by DJ Seidel gave the Cook County/Silver Bay Viking Sr. Legion team a 5-4 victory over Eveleth in a game played at home on Thursday, July 8.
DJ’s single came on a 1-2 count with the score tied 4-4.
Both teams put up two runs in the first, but the Vikings took a slim 3-2 lead when a run scored off a wild pitch in the second inning.
Eveleth scored one in the third and regained the lead in the fifth when they pushed another run across the plate.
A single by Ryan Bilben in the sixth brought in the tying run for the Vikings and when Eveleth couldn’t score in their next two at bats, it set up the dramatic finish for DJ Seidel’s at-bat.
Ero Wallin took the mound for the Cook County/Silver BayVikings. Ero pitched seven and third innings, giving up four runs on six hits while striking out nine.
Jacob Dorr relieved Ero. Jacob pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up no hits and no runs to earn the victory.
The Viking Senior. Legion Cook County/Silver Bay players didn’t commit a single error, with Ryan Bilben making the most plays with 13.
DJ Seidel and Jacob Dorr each had two hits in the game. The team ended with seven hits in a dual of fine pitching. Patrick Pierre, Ryan Bilben and Amos Falter also each had one hit in the game.
Eveleth ended with six hits, three walks and nine strikeouts. The CC/SB Vikings walked seven times and struck out ten times. Eveleth players committed two errors in a tight, exciting game.
