Walk! Bike! Fun! Bike Maintenance Workshop on Saturday, August 13 and Free Educator Course on Friday, August 12

Kristina Mattson, the new State Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP) Coordinator for Cook County would like to personally thank locals for their interest in helping sustain and grow Walk! Bike! Fun! Events and education in Cook County! “We can’t continue this important work and programing without them,” said Kristina. BikeMN will be joining us in Grand Marais for a FREE Bike Maintenance Workshop on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and has generously presented us a last-minute opportunity to also offer a FREE Walk! Bike! Fun! Educator Course while they are up here. In the past, travel to Grand Rapids was required for this training. Having it in Grand Marais is a HUGE opportunity not to be missed.

Through this training, participants will deepen their understanding of bicycle and pedestrian safety, learn about and practice activities and lessons to share with students, and practice on bike skills. Participation is free, participants are granted 8 CEUs, and educators may be eligible for $100. Lunch will be provided.

To learn more, visit walkbikefun.org, or email angela@bikemn. This program is funded through MnDot’s Safe Routes to School Program as well as the Department of health. The educator training is a two-part course. Part one is online and part two is in person. BikeMN is hosting the in-person portion of their Bike Educator’s Training here in Cook County.

When: Friday August 12, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (may end earlier)

Where: Log Cabin Building at the Cook County Community Center

Registration: Register for both the online and in-person courses. The online part needs to be completed prior to the in-person course on Friday.

Part one online registration (approximately two hours and needs to be completed before Friday please). Part two in-person training registration.

Feel free to bring your own bike, helmet, and a water bottle. Please dress comfortably for biking and weather. Lunch will be provided. For dietary needs, accommodations, or any other questions, email angela@bikemn.org.
