I write as a graduate of Cook County schools and as a mom of a kindergartener (ISD 704), imploring you to vote YES for the kids, your schools and the health of the community I’m proud to call my hometown.
I was lucky to have a solid public education at Sawtooth Elementary and to graduate from Cook County High School with honors. I got to play basketball, run track, manage the football team, play in the band, watch my classmates in theater, and have years of Spanish and art from phenomenal teachers. I took for granted that our tiny, remote community could offer so much to its young people.
I have followed the budget challenges and the failed referendum with great disappointment and sadness. Very difficult choices have been made as a result of last year’s election results. This November voters have an opportunity to correct that vote and improve the future outlook for school programs and curriculum. Without a strong public school option, young families will leave the county along with the energy, work force and innovation that a vibrant, healthy community needs.
Please vote YES and YES for the kids — for their futures and your own.
