Paula Marie Powell has deep and broad connections to the easternmost triangle of Cook County. She’s lived in Grand Portage, Hovland, and Colvill, and worked for Isle Royale Transportation for many years. As an Indiginous person, avid outdoorswoman, and lifelong local, Paula is uniquely positioned to represent District 1 on the Board of Commissioners.
Paula believes–as I do– that a local government should protect, support, and empower the people it serves. She will work to preserve the wild nature of Cook County by protecting public land and water. She will promote social justice, equity, and dignity for all. She will help maintain a strong relationship with the Grand Portage band- -one that recognizes and respects their cultural connections to the land that we all live on. She will approach problems around affordable housing and economic stability with prudence and creativity. Most importantly, until we make it through to the end of the pandemic, Paula will make health, wellness, and safety her number one priority.
Paula is committed to asking questions, collecting relevant information from all stakeholders, and listening to constituents to understand how policies are working for them and where there is room for improvement. Let’s elect this attentive and forward thinking woman to be our next commissioner.
