Volunteers needed

With no foreign workers coming this summer, and local businesses already stressed because of a labor shortage, store owners are having a hard time monitoring their storefronts so only a recommended number of people are shopping at one time.

It’s a lot to deal with.

Roger Barton and Claire Smith, in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce, have come up with a plan to help local businesses keep everyone healthy while they shop in Grand Marais.

They’ve initiated a program of volunteers who will welcome visitors at store entrances, review mask expectations, and sometimes hand out or sell masks. (That will be up to the storeowners.)

Roger and Claire have created a Sign-up Genius site for volunteers to sign up for businesses to assist. If you’re willing to lend a hand, please contact one of them, and they’ll share the information with you.

Claire Smith: (612) 554- 0246, clperkins212@gmail.com.

It’s possible to split a volunteer shift with a friend, too. Let’s promote a United Front for health!
