Volunteers made canoe races a success

Thanks to all the volunteers who made the Gunflint Trail Canoe Races such a lively and profitable evening on July 18. As a result of the annual celebration, $14,300 was donated to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department to help fund their project to upgrade facilities at their three stations along the Trail. It took a community to produce such a successful event. Raffle ticket sellers and buyers, those who made donations, eating contest participants, silent auction and special auction bidders, food preparers and servers, setup participants, race coordinators, paddlers, media supporters and many others are to be thanked.

Well over 100 volunteers were involved. Canoe Race Chairs, Jim and Margit Jamieson of Gunflint Lake made the evening run smoothly. Special thanks go to Sue and Bruce Kerfoot for offering their lovely Gunflint Lodge waterfront as site of the festivities.
