Volleyball team battles Moose Lake/Willow River

Playing at home, Thursday, November 5, the Cook County girls’ varsity volleyball team faced Moose Lake/Willow River (ML/WR) and lost 3-1.

The Vikings fought hard the first two games but fell 25-19, 25-17 before taking game three 25-16. That set up an exciting fourth game, but ML/WR held on to win the deciding contest 25-20.

Leading the way for the Vikings was Morgan Starkey. Starkey finished with 15 kills, 23 digs and two ace serves.

Summarizing Starkey’s play, Head Coach Marlene Zimmer said, “Morgan had a fantastic game against Moose Lake/Willow River. We needed someone to step up, and it made the game that much more fun to be a part of.”

Paisley Smith was strong at the net, ending her night with 12 kills and two blocks. Paisley also had one serving ace and 11 digs.

Molly Lavigne had 22 set assists for the evening, seven kills, two ace serves, and seven digs. Charlet Waver recorded three kills, three ace serves, and 23 digs.

Sadie Wilson finished with one kill and 16 digs. Kamryn Johnson had three kills, one ace serve, and 12 digs. Emmalli Meyers tallied four kills, and two ace serves and five digs. Ronnie Poyirier had one kill, one block and seven digs. Raeanne Silence finished with nine digs.

The Vikings have played half of their games so far, and have two wins and five losses.

Stats

So far this season, Paisley Smith leads the team in kills (46), aces (16), and total blocks with ten. She also has 36 digs and 22 (ball handling) BHA.

Molly Lavigne has accrued 16 kills, ten aces, 46 digs, one block, and a team-leading BHA of 444.

Charlett Waver has 22 kills, eight aces, 72 digs, one block, 35 BHA.

Morgan Starkey has 43 kills, 11 aces, nine digs, 20 BHA.

Sadie Wilson has six kills, 107 digs, 35 BHA.

Kamryn Johnson has ten kills, 40 digs, one ace, 12 BHA.

Emmalli Meyers has 15 kills, eight aces, two blocks, 46 digs, and 186 BHA.

Rhonnie Poyirier has five kills, two blocks, eight digs, eight BHA.

Katie Peck 30 kills, 15 aces, two blocks, 23 digs, and 18 BHA.

Reanne Silence has 19 digs.

Morgan Starkey has a 95 percent serving rate, and Molly Lavigne has a 94.9 serving percentage.
