Mark your calendar for Monday, October 8, and come out and support Cook County volleyball players while they raise funds for the local branch of the American Cancer Society.
From grade school to high school (and even some alumni) the kids will play exhibition games against each other in the spirit of fun and good-hearted competition. All in the name of a good cause.
“We will be conducting a fundraiser for the local branch of the American Cancer Society,” said 8th grade volleyball coach Kelly Roberts, adding that some of the money raised will help cancer patients pay transportation costs to and from hospitals and clinics.
The action will start at 4:30 p.m. when the 5th and 6th grade teams play each other. Matches with the 7th and 8th grade teams, the C-team and the junior varsity, will follow those games and then the action will really heat up (or really melt down in puddles of laughter and sweat) when the varsity faces alumni players.
It should be an evening of good fun and a chance to see the kids show off their skills.
A free will offering will be taken at the door and there will be a raffle for prizes. Memory plates commemorating loved ones who have had cancer will also be sold for $2.
