The Cook County High School varsity gym should be a rocking fun place to be on October 13 when the annual Volley for the Cure takes place.
Junior High Volleyball Coach Kelly Roberts and Varsity Volleyball Coach Pam Taylor (a breast cancer survivor) hope to see the gymnasium packed with pink shirts Monday starting at 4 p.m.
The way the event is set up, goodnatured volleyball games will be played between the 6-7th grade team and the 8-9th grade team. The junior varsity will play the staff and the varsity will play against parents and alumni.
“If we have enough alumni show up we may have a game with alumni playing alumni,” Roberts said.
Games start at 4 p.m. in the varsity gym. There will be a free will offering at the door and memory ribbons will be sold. A gift basket and several other items will be raffled off, said Roberts.
“Last year we raised over $1,000,” said co-event coordinator Kelly Roberts. “It’s important for people to know that the money we raise stays in the community. It will be donated to the North Shore Health Care Foundation,” Roberts said.
Begun in 2006 in Ohio, Volley for the Cure was designed to raise awareness and raise funds for breast cancer. During the 2013 season over $2 million was raised to support the fight against breast cancer in Ohio alone.
Come out and support the fight to end breast cancer. Come out and watch Cook County’s talented volleyball players be kind to their parents and alumni as they scrimmage them.
“It should be a great, fun-filled evening,” Taylor said.
