Virginia Lee Lueth, 84, of Bemidji, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016 at home surrounded by her children.
Visitation was 4 to 6 p.m. with prayers and reflections at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 19 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Rev. Andrew Ronnevik officiating. Funeral was held 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2016 with visitation one hour before at Calvary Lutheran Church in Bemidji. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji.
Virginia was born on September 20, 1932 in Bemidji, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Wammer) Franklin. The family eventually settled in Roseau, where she attended school and graduated from Roseau High School 1950.
Virginia attended Concordia College where she met Vernon Lueth before earning her Registered Nursing degree from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing, 1955. Vernon and Virginia were married September 4, 1954 in Roseau.
Over their lifetime, the family lived in Longville, Buffalo, Orono, Grand Marais, Pine River, and since 1992 Bemidji. Virginia was involved with numerous church events and activities, Hospital Auxiliary, Sons of Norway, American Cancer Society, book clubs, and garden clubs.
Virginia traveled extensively with family and friends, treasured her Norwegian heritage, was an amazing hostess, and an accomplished seamstress. Known for her witty one-liners, Virginia had a quick sense of humor and clever knack for irony. Diagnosed with Parkinson’s at age 55, Virginia faced her disease with grace and dignity, receiving dedicated support from her family and in later years through Touching Hearts at Home caregivers.
Four children survive her: John (Cindy) Lueth, Bemidji, Joan Lueth of Shanghai, China, Sue (Mark) Read, Deephaven, Minnesota, Jennifer Lueth, Bemidji; six grandchildren: Jennifer (Mark) Willett, Marit Lueth, Kati Lueth, Micheala Read, Daniel Read and Nicholas Ruigh; three great-grandchildren: Milo, Linus and Felix Willett; two sisters: Kay (Roger) Strandlie and Judy Loeffler of Walker, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law: Lorna Zirbel Bowden, North Dakota, Doris (Arnold “Casey”) Stengel, Brainerd; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Memorials suggested to Struthers Parkinson’s Center, Minneapolis, Calvary Lutheran Church and Concordia Skogfjorden Language Village, Bemidji.
