Lately the Vikings’ volleyball team has been on the road, with games on Thursday, September 26 in Carlton and this week in Wrenshall on Tuesday, October 1. The team next travels to play Lakeview Christian on Thursday and then a tournament to be played in Two Harbors on Saturday, October 5.
The match against the always-tough Carlton Bulldogs wasn’t what Coach Pam Taylor hoped for.
“We lost the first game 25-9. It was a kind of a warm-up game for us. Kind of what I expected. Our second game we played much better, although we lost 25-18. Still, it was a good game and the girls played hard,” said Taylor.
“The third game we just fell apart. We played just awful, losing 25-5.”
On Tuesday, October 1 the Vikings traveled to Wrenshall to play a Wren team that so far this season has only won two matches.” said Taylor.
“This went five games, I wasn’t pleased. The girls won the first game 25-13, then lost the next two games 25-22, 25-19. We came back and won game four 25-17 and then won the fifth game 16-14.”
Although happy for the win, Taylor expressed frustration with her team’s inconsistent play.
The team will get several more games away from home to work things out on the court before rival Barnum comes to town on October 8.
To date the Vikings’ record is 8 wins, 6 losses. The team is 3-3 in conference play and is currently ranked 7th out of 12 teams.
Carlton leads the Polar League with a 4-0 record.
