Vikings win one, lose one



Following an opening 18-25 game loss, the Vikings rallied to take the next three games 25-23, 25-11, and 25-17 to win the away match against Moose Lake/Willow River on Thursday, September 6.

Sophie Eliasen led the team with 15 digs, three ace serves and three ace blocks.

Alyssa Fenstad Lashinski finished with 17 kills and 22 digs. Bianca Zimmer had 16 set assists and Reilly Wahlers contributed 12 digs and seven kills.

Vikings fall 3-1 to Mountain Iron Buhl

The Vikings traveled to Mountain Iron Buhl at Buhl High School to play the Rangers on Tuesday, September 11.

After taking the first game 25-22, the Vikings fell 25-20, 25-23, and 25-18.

Squaring off against a very good MIB team who was playing at home in front their fans, the Vikings were very competitive in this match.

Alyssa Fenstad Lashinski finished with 10 kills and 16 digs. Freshman outside hitter Morgan Starkey had 13 digs and Emma Smith finished with 11 set assists.

Devyn Dahl led the Rangers with 30 set assists and Matti Bennett had 16 kills and 9 blocks in the contest.

With the loss the Vikings’ record falls to 2-3. The Rangers’ record improved to 3-3 with the win.

On Thursday (after the paper has gone to bed) the Vikings played the South Ridge Panthers at home. South Ridge is 0-2 on the year.

With a lot of volleyball to be played, Cook County is currently in fourth place in Polar League out of 12 teams. Esko is in first with a 2-0 conference record and is 3-3 overall. The Silver Bay Mariners are in second place with a 3-1 conference mark. Their lone loss came against the Vikings.

The Vikings’ next home game will be played Tuesday, September 18 against the Wrenshall Wrens. The game will start at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
