Vikings win first play-off game in convincing fashion

The Cook County High School Vikings played one of their best games of the season in their 42-12 win over the Hill City/Northland football team.

The playoff game was played at home on Tuesday, October 25 on the Lyle Anderson Football field.

Defense played a big key in the Vikings win over the Hill City/Northland football team as the Vikings ended with two fumble recoveries and three interceptions.

The Vikings led 6-0 after the first quarter and 26-12 after two quarters. The Vikings shut Hill City down the rest of the way while adding 8 points in the third and 8 points in he fourth to take the win and move on in the play-offs.

On offense Sophomore quarterback Hunter Rex completed seven of 18 passes for 139 yards and four touchdowns. Hunter also rushed nine times for 30 yards.

Junior running back Ray Dressely carried 12 times for 110 yards and he scored one touchdown. He also successfully rushed twice for two-point conversions. Ray averaged 9.2 yards per carry. He also caught four passes for 63 yards, two of those catches for touchdowns.

Senior running back Ryan Christiansen carried three times for 25 yards, and he caught two passes for 38 yards, scoring one touchdown. Ryan also ran in one two-point conversion.

Rohan Rude rushed once for seven yards.

Kole Anderson ran the ball four times for 24 yards, rushing for one touchdown.

Amos Falter had one catch, a touchdown, that went for 38 yards.

For the game the Vikings totaled 335 yards of offense.

On defense Kole Anderson once again came up big for the Vikings. The senior linebacker finished with 20 tackles and 1.5 sacks. He also had a bone-jarring tackle that led to a fumble recovered by the Vikings. Ray Dressely had ten tackles, Ryan Christiansen seven, Ben Rex and Cade Smith six, Jordan Backstrom, Rohan Rude and Recko-Helmerson four, Ryan Smith, Arlo Christensen, and Rayce Gibson three, and Devan Rude, Calvin Battees, Macoy Fairbanks and Reuben Youngdahl each had one tackle.

Ryan Christiansen had two interceptions for 53 yards to flip the field for the Vikings and Rayce Gibson picked off one ball, taking it 14 yards up field.

Ben Rex and Calvin Battees each had one fumble recovery.

Next up is rematch with Cherry at Cherry on Saturday, October 29. The game is at 2 p.m. Go Vikings!!!
