After missing three games because of the COVID-19 protocol, the CCHS girls’ varsity basketball team looked a little bit out of sorts for their first half of the home game they played this past Tuesday against the Carlton Bulldogs.

At halftime, the Vikings were up by a basket, but it didn’t look like they could shake the Carlton team. That notion ended a couple of minutes into the second half when Ariana Poyirier hit a couple of big threes, and Rhonnie Poyirier and Paisley Smith both started to make some baskets.

Meanwhile, the Vikings defense clamped down on the Carlton offense and some scrappy takeaways led to lay-ups, mostly made by Ariana.

As the second half clock wound down, the Viking lead grew to 20 points. A late charge by Carlton brought the final score to 54-40, but by that time, the game wasn’t in doubt. An excellent second half on offense by Paisley Smith (10 points) and Rhonnie Poyirier (12 points) helped put this game in the win column for the Vikings. Scrappy defense by Anna Hay helped lead the Viking surge in the second half. This is the fourth win in a row for the Vikings.
