Junior running back Ryan Christiansen had a big game against the North Central Stars. Ryan scored on a 65-yard run off the left side in the first quarter, a 17 yard run in the second quarter, and a 25-yard touchdown scamper in the third quarter to help lead the Vikings to a 40-8 victory over the North Central Stars last Friday night at home.
Christiansen was filling in for sophomore running back Ray Dressley, who was out because of a quad injury.
Freshman Rohan Rude recovered a fumble in the second quarter on the Stars 26 yard-line that led to the second Christiansen touchdown. Viking quarterback Paul Dorr ran nine yards on the first play from scrimmage, taking it to the 17 and Ryan ran it in on the next play.
With 3:40 to go in the first half, Paul Dorr hit his brother Jacob with a 20-yard touchdown pass and Christiansen took it in for two points to make it 20-0.
The Vikings would hold North Central on the next series and go into halftime with a 20-0 lead.
In the third quarter, junior quarterback Paul Dorr ran for a 20-yard touchdown to make the score 26-0 after the twopoint conversion pass play failed. After stopping the Stars, Christiansen took the ball 25 yards for his third touchdown run of the day, and the score was 34-0 after Paul Dorr ran in the twopoint conversion.
Ninth grader Rayce Gibson scored on a three-yard run in the fourth to make it 40-0.
With substitutes in for the Vikings, North Central scored on a 68-yard run and completed the twopoint conversion to bring the final score to 40-8.
Ryan Christiansen finished with 206 yards on 16 carries to average 12.8 yards per carry. Ryan also caught four balls to gain 44 yards.
Paul Dorr carried 12 times and ran for 133 yards, averaging 11.1 yards per carry.
Rayce Gibson ran five times for 16 yards, a 3.2 yard per carry average. Rayce also caught three passes for 24 yards.
Jacob Dorr, the lone senior on the team, caught two passes for 29 yards. Kole Anderson also had a catch for no yards.
Viking quarterback Paul Dorr was 10 of 22, throwing the ball for 97 yards. But Dorr had several well-thrown balls dropped in the game, and his stats don’t reflect how well he threw the ball, even when he was under a heavy rush.
North Central completed three of six passes for 17 yards.
The Vikings finished with 388 yards on the ground and 97 through the air to total 495 yards.
North Central had 35 rushing attempts and gained 188 yards on the ground and 17 passing yards to end with 205 yards. The Vikings had 14 first downs in the game to eight for North Central.
Hard-hitting junior linebacker Kole Anderson led the team in tackles with 11. Jacob Dorr and Ben Rex each finished with seven tackles. Ryan Christiansen had six, Payton Morrison five, Rohan Rude five, Calvin Battees five, Rayce Gibson four, Arlo Christiansen four, Ryan Smith three, Paul Dorr three and Jordan Backstrom, Amos Falter and Hunter Rex each had one tackle in the game.
Cook County had four penalties for a loss of 35 yards. Three were on holding calls. North Central was penalized six times for a loss of 65 yards. Three calls were for personal fouls.
Paul Door kicked three times for a 20.6-yard average, and Kole Anderson kicked off four times for a 28.5 average.
The Vikings play Ely tonight (Friday, October 8) in Ely and then Mountain Iron-Buhl away the next week before finishing the season at home on October 20 against Cherry. That game starts at 7 p.m.
