Vikings take 3-1 victory over Moose Lake/Willow River

Last Thursday night the gym was rocking at CCHS as the Viking volleyball team played their best match of the year, taking down the Moose Lake/ Willow River Rebels 25-23, 25-16, 16-25 and 25-20.

The last game turned on back-to-back spikes, the first slam was by junior Katie Peck and the second was by senior Morgan Starkey. Those two emphatic points pushed the Vikings lead to 23-19 and the Vikings closed out the Rebels and ended the match up 3-1.

Both teams traded points in the first game, but the Vikings scored the last two to win a 25-23 nail biter.

The second game was all Vikings as the offense clicked, with big spikes by Morgan Starkey and Katie Peck, and some strong blocks at the net by the defense.

Moose Lake/Willow River came back to take the third game, but the Vikings fought hard. The Rebels 15th point in the third game was epic as both teams fought back and forth with many players on both sides making great plays to keep the ball alive.

Game fourth was close, but the Vikings held off the Rebels behind a strong serving game and great plays at the net.

Morgan Starkey ended her night with 27 digs, 11 kills and three ace serves.

Emmalli Myers finished with 16 digs, three ace serves and five set assists.

Katie Peck had nine kills, 17 digs and three ace blocks.

Molly Lavigne finished with ten digs, nine set assists and two ace blocks.

Vikings beat North Woods

The Vikings hosted the North Woods Grizzlies on Tuesday, September 28 and once again had to play great volleyball to win the match 25-18, 25-19, 24-26, 23-25 and finally 15-10 to take the tiebreaker.

Emmalli Myers finished with 10 digs eight kills, and five ace serves. Morgan Starkey led the team with 38 digs and seven kills. Charlet Waver had a great night on the court finishing with 19 digs, eight kills and four ace serves.

The next home game will be October 11 against Mountain Iron-Buhl. The varsity takes the court at 6:3o p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
