Somehow Silver Bay took a game against the Cook County Vikings on Tuesday, October 20, but the unbeaten Vikings managed to get their mojo back to overpower the Mariners 25-9, 25-13, 25-6 to take the match that was played in Silver Bay.
Inexplicably, the Vikings lost game two 19-25.
“Let’s see, during game two we were missing our serves, missing our hits, hitting out of bounds, hitting into the net, just playing awful. We made a lot of mental errors in that game,” said Head Coach Pam Taylor shaking her head.
But the Vikings regrouped and played much better the last two games, Coach Taylor said.
Linden Sutton led the Vikings with 15 kills, 13 digs, and 7 blocks. Meredith Sutton had 11 kills and 15 digs. Madison Roy 21 set assists. Emily Jacobsen 6 kills. Raina Ryden 17 digs and Alex Slanga had 12 set assists.
Jenny Walewski led Silver Bay with 17 set assists.
Silver Bay came into the game with six wins and 10 losses. The Vikings took out a big broom and swept the Mariners at home two weeks ago.
Coach Taylor led her squad into one last regular season game, which was played at home against Floodwood on Thursday, October 22 after press time.
Should the team win that game, it will have finished with a 21-0 record, the first time a Viking volleyball team has ever accomplished this feat.
While the Minnesota Coaches’ Poll hasn’t shown the Vikings any love, Minnesota Scores.net has the Vikings ranked 10th for Class A schools. Section playoffs begin next week and the Vikings will get a first round bye. Just who they will play in the second round and where that game will be held isn’t yet known, but it will be announced by the school as soon as possible.
