The CCHS boys’ baseball team faced Two Harbors and their ace pitcher Thor Tokvam on Friday, May 28 at home in their final game of the year before play-offs. Although a bit nippy, high forties, the sun was shining and there wasn’t much if any wind. It was a great night for baseball.
Tokvam used his curve ball and fastball pitches to near perfection, striking out 12 Vikings in 5.2 innings. The right-hander gave up five hits and one run and three bases on balls as he kept Viking hitters guessing while he was on the mound.
Meanwhile, Tovkam also had a big bat for his team. He collected two hits in the game, driving in a run in the big fifth inning along with his teammates Zach Bentler, Brjen Jones and Clark Nelson. The Agates ended with a dozen hits to seven for the Vikings
Jacob Dorr took the loss for the Vikings. Jacob pitched five innings, giving up seven runs off nine hits and one walk while striking out four. Isaac Sandstrom came in and relieved Jacob. He allowed two runs off three hits while striking out one Agate batter.
Jacob Dorr led Viking hitters by going two for three with one walk. Ray Dressley went two for four at the plate and Tate Crawford, Paul Dorr and Amos Falter each had one hit apiece.
Two Harbors led 2-0 after the first inning and each team scored a run in the second inning. The game was close through four innings as the Vikings only trailed three to one, but the Agates blew the game open with a four run fifth inning. The agates scored two more in the seventh, and the Vikings rallied for two in the seventh as well to fall nine to three (9-3) in the game.
The Vikings received six walks to one for the Agates, and the Vikings ended with three fielding errors to two for the Agates.
