In a see-saw battle, the Vikings won 63-50.

Senior guard David Bergstrom also had an excellent game, scoring 19 points while grabbing 14 rebounds to help secure this important conference win.

The Vikings are now 16-1 for the year and 9-1 in the conference. They are in third place while the Floodwood Polar Bears are right behind in fourth place.

The Vikings led 30-18 at the half and outscored Floodwood 32-31 in the second half. But the Polar Bears mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, taking a 44-42 lead with 9 minutes left before the Vikings pulled away for the victory.

Junior guard Colin Everson hit two big 3-point shots, one coming at the end of the first half and scored 8 points for the night. Senior guard Mike Sjogren played his usual tough defense, distributed the ball well and scored 6 points for the game.

The Vikings best three-point shooter is junior guard Colin Everson. In a recent game against Carlton, Colin sent up this rainbow from about 25 feet that happily landed in the basket.

Head Coach Mitch Dorr said senior forward Dylan Quaife “had a great battle with the 6’5” Schminski kid from Floodwood.” For the game Quaife scored 11 points and had 7 assists.

About the second half, Dorr said, “Floodwood went on a run behind the shooting of one of their guards and took a 44-42 lead. In the final nine minutes we outscored Floodwood 21-6. We just clamped down on defense and started to execute better on offense.”

Overall, Dorr said his players executed well in the clutch and played great team defense.

Riley Bernsdord led the Polar Bears in scoring with 19 points.

The boys play tonight (Friday, Feb. 17) at 4:45 p.m. at home against Wrenshall. The following day they face Lakeview Christian Academy at St. Scholastica at 3:30 p.m.
