Whatever went wrong in the lopsided loss to Esko was quickly corrected two days later as the Vikings overwhelmed Double A Moose Lake/Willow River 19-2 at Moose Lake on April 25.

With the win the Vikings’ record is 3-1 on the season.

The Vikings exploded for 12 runs in the fifth inning.

Andrew Miller led the hit parade with a line drive triple in the fifth that brought in Adam Dorr, Aram Falter, and Cameron Roy.

Miller led the team with four RBIs on three hits. Dillon Sjogren also collected three hits while Aram Falter, Cameron Roy, and Connor Somnis each had two hits and drove in runs.

Josh Prom got the win for the Vikings on the mound. Prom pitched two innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three. Andrew Miller pitched the last three innings and didn’t allow a run.

Once again the Vikings didn’t commit a single error in the field. The Vikings have had one error—a throwing error—in four games. Moose Lake/Willow River also didn’t have any errors in the field, but their starting pitcher Jordan Fjosne gave up eight hits and 11 runs over four innings.

The Vikings built a nice lead early. Cameron Roy got a single in the first inning to start things out. Miller walked and Dillon Sjogren singled to center to load the bases. Joe Deschampe sacrificed to center field, which brought in Roy.

Josh Prom doubled to left field bringing in Miller and Sjogren. Connor Somnis grounded out to second base and brought in Prom for the team’s fourth run. Levi Sheils ground out to end the inning and the Vikings held Moose Lake/Willow River to one run.

Adam Dorr singled to left field to start the second inning. Dorr advanced to second on a wild pitch and took third when Aram Falter ground out to the shortstop. Cameron Roy singled to bring Dorr across the plate. Roy stole second with Miller at bat. Miller walked and Dillon Sjogren walked to load the bases. Joe Deschampe ground into a fielder’s choice and Roy scored with Miller advancing to third and Sjogren to second. Both Prom and Somnis would be out in their at-bats to end the inning with the Vikings up 6-2.

Neither team scored in the third inning but the Vikings would add a run in the fourth behind singles by Miller and Prom and a sacrifice fly by Deschampe to score Miller and make the score 7-2.

In the top of the fifth Connor Somnis singled, Levi Sheils walked, Adam Dorr walked and Somnis scored on a wild pitch while Aram Falter was at bat.

Falter would also walked as was Roy. Miller hit a line drive single to right field to bring in Dorr. Dillon Sjogren singled on a hot ground ball to left field to score Falter and Roy.

Joe Deschampe popped out to the shortstop for the Vikings’ first out. Josh Prom struck out swinging to give the Vikings two outs. And then Somnis, who was up again in the inning, singled once again for two RBIs as Miller and Sjogren scored.

Levi Sheils singled to center field to advance Somnis to second. Adam Dorr drew a walk to load the bases. Aram Falter singled to score Somnis and advance Sheils to third. Cameron Roy grounded into a fielder’s choice to score Sheils and bring up Miller again.

Miller tripled to bring in three runs to make the score 19-2, which is how the game ended.

The Vikings will have a slew of make-up games because of winter’s second return.

A home game is scheduled against Barnum on May 5 with the players taking the field at 3:30 p.m. because there is a high school band concert later that night. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
