Viking senior starting quarterback Kale Boomer was named 2012 Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP) for the Great Polar Alliance (Blue) League following the Vikings’ 9-2 season.
The team finished second place to the Barnum Bombers with a 6-1 conference record.
Boomer has been the Vikings’ varsity quarterback since his freshman year and has started on defense all four years.
For the season, Boomer, a quick-footed, hard-throwing option quarterback, rushed for 1,073 yards, passed for 637 yards, and scored 16 touchdowns. He also returned punts and kickoffs, taking several back for touchdowns.
In addition to Boomer, five other Vikings received First Team All-Conference honors. Two linemen, Jonny Jacobsen and Clay Johnson and a tight end, Jacob Schroeder (largely a blocking tight end), don’t get much attention for their yeomen work during the season, but opposing coaches noticed them and honored them for their fine play.
Two running backs, Colin Everson and Peter Warren, also received first team selections.
Like Boomer, all of the players lined up and started on both offense and defense.
Everson gained 786 yards and average 8.5 yards per carry. He had 14 touchdowns and scored 110 points.
Warren rushed for 1,437 yards and averaged 8.9 yards per carry. He scored 19 touchdowns and scored 128 points.
Warren set two Minnesota all-time records when he rushed for 8 touchdowns against Cass Lake-Bena in the Vikings’ first play-off game this year. He also singlehandedly scored 52 points in that game, also a state record.
Justin Goldstein and Thomas Anderson received Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for their fine play.
Head Coach Mitch Dorr praised his players for the hard work, dedication and leadership they provided to the team and said he was proud of each and every one of them.
