Richie Furlong has done a good job with the catching duties for the Vikings as they begin playing catch-up to make up all of the early season games cancelled due to snow.
With the season delayed by snow and time running out, the Viking boys’ baseball team has begun play in earnest. The first game was played on Thursday, April 2 against Floodwood. The boys fell 5-0.
Up next, the boys faced Silver Bay at home on Monday, April 6, and won 9-6. Three Vikings teamed up to pitch. Joe Borud started and was replaced by Kale Boomer who was relieved by Thomas Anderson.
The next day the boys got on the bus and traveled to play against Barnum and Moose Lake/Willow River.
Each game was played on the opponent’s home field, making it the most unusual doubleheader ever for a Vikings’ team.
The boys lost 14-6 to a very strong Barnum team. Frankie Miller pitched 6 innings and gave up 10 runs. No shame against Barnum.
Kale Boomer was 1-3 with a double and drove in 3 runs.
A tired Viking team next faced Moose Lake/Willow River and lost 16-9. Thomas Anderson just missed a home run on a “moon shot” said Assistant Coach Todd Toulouse. Anderson reached second on the long ball and Joe Borud drove in a couple of runs on a timely hit with the bases loaded.

On Wednesday, May 8, the boys traveled to McGregor and won 10-0. The game ended after 5 innings due to the 10-run rule. Andrew Lashinski had a stellar day on the mound, pitching a complete game for the Vikings.
The Vikings faced Carlton at home on Thursday, April 9, after press time.
