Following a great last week, the Viking baseball team is heading into playoffs on a 3-game winning streak.

Last Friday, May 20, the sun was out and it was warm enough for Viking baseball fans to sit and watch a ballgame without having to wear a jacket or sweater. Those fans enjoyed watching the Vikings play the Mesabi East Giants, in a game filled with big rallies by both teams.

Cook County led 1-0 after the first inning and the score was tied 2-2 after two, but the third inning was tough on Viking fielders who couldn’t find the handle on the ball and the Giants pushed 6 runs across the plate. The Vikings scored two runs of their own in that inning to trail 8-4.

Rory Bakke came in for relief for Frankie Miller and mostly mowed through the Giants’ line-up the rest of the way, giving up one run in the sixth inning. Meanwhile after neither team scored in the fourth, the Viking hitters went on a tear in the fifth and scored seven runs. The Vikings added two more in the sixth to win 13-9 in a great comeback over a tough 2A school.
