All season long Will Ramberg has been putting up numbers on the basketball court rarely seen by any player to ever wear a Viking uniform. The junior tallied 53 points in the last two games. Will, who is a 6’3” forward, also averages about 15 rebounds per game.
The CCHS boys’ basketball team went on two road trips this past week and came away with two losses, but in each game, junior forward Will Ramberg continued his frenetic pace of putting up significant numbers for rebounding and scoring lots of points.
Head boys’ basketball coach Mitch Dorr took his team to Barnum on Friday, February 2, and the boys fell to a tough Barnum Bomber team 73-51.
“Barnum played an aggressive 1-3-1 half-court zone defense that led to over 20 Viking turnovers,” Dorr said.
Turnovers, when they aren’t apple or blueberry, aren’t great for a team which puts in as much effort as the Vikings do on the court.
Despite the turnovers, Will Ramberg had another tremendous game, scoring 23 points and pulling down 15 rebounds to go along with five assists.
Jordan Porter also had 10 points, Pete Sutton 8, Dyami Blackwell 7, and Adam Dorr 3 points in the game.
Vikings fall to Lakeview Christian
The Vikings traveled to play the Lakeview Christian Academy Lions on Tuesday, February 6 and lost a close game 80-70.
“We were down 51-35 at the half,” said Dorr, before coming back strong and falling by 10 points at the end of the game.
“We are going to need to learn to play defense so we can start competing for the entire game,” coach Dorr said. “We need to get a bit tougher as a group.”
Will Ramberg once again led the team in scoring with 30 points. Sophomore forward Jordan Porter also had a great game, netting 16 points. Junior forward Dyami Blackwell netted 10, sophomore guard Pete Sutton had 7 points, junior guard Trusen Gordon 4 points, and sophomore guard Adam Dorr 3 points.
The Vikings are 4-2 in the Polar League conference and 7-11 on the year.
Next up, the Vikings travel to Esko where they will face a tall drink of water in senior Esko center Adam Trapp, who stands 7’3”, one foot taller than Will Ramberg.
The Eskimos are 11-4 on the year and have qualified to play in the last two state basketball tournaments, and they are the odds-on favorite to make another trip to state this year.
The next home game for the Vikings will be Friday, February 16 against Moose Lake-Willow River at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for your Vikings!
