The Viking girls’ basketball team played its last home game of the year against Nashwauk Keewatin and fell 51-25.

“We played very flat versus Nashwauk with very poor defense,” said Head Coach Mitch Dorr.

The Vikings turned the ball over 28 times and couldn’t get their offense going. Breana Peterson led Viking scorers with 13 points. Lily Gruber- Schulz scored 6 points, Suzy Burton scored 4 points and Emily Jacobsen finished with 2 points.

“Nashwauk had a few nice players and we did not defend well at all. As a coach, I have to take responsibility for that. We looked like a team not ready to play. We will have to improve if we want to compete in the playoffs,” Dorr said.

The Vikings finished their regular season with 6 wins and 12 losses. Faced with a young team, Coach Dorr often played 15 players in games this season, with 10 of those players just freshmen.

At press time the Vikings were set to face South Ridge on Thursday, March 6 to begin Section 7A playoff basketball. A win will send them on; a loss will send them home. Either way, the young Vikings improved all season and will look to be much better next year.
