The Littlefork-Big Falls Vikings came to town last Friday night and proved to be the better Viking team, taking the non-conference win over our Cook County Vikings.
One disadvantage for the Cook County Vikings was two players weren’t available to play.
“Our two starting posts were on vacation, which hurts,” said head Coach Keaton Riley.
For the Cook County Vikings fans, the game was a bit of heartbreak on Parents Night when the seniors were honored at halftime. However, the home team stayed close early, trailing 15-11, but Littlefork-Big Falls steadily pulled away and won 86-65.
Cook County was down 47-34 at halftime and was outscored 39-31 over the second half of the play. Both teams made quite a few three-point shots.
With the loss the Vikings record fell to 3-14 and LBF upped its mark to 13-10.
On a bright note, sophomore guard Rohan Rude returned to play after breaking his nose several weeks ago in a game against Two Harbors.
Senior Derek Smith had a great game. Derek scored 17 points, shooting seven of ten from the field. Derek made two three-point baskets, grabbed a team high eight rebounds, had three assists, two steals, one block and five deflections.
Denali Blackwell led the team in scoring with 25 points. Denali was nine of eighteen for fifty percent shooting with six three-point baskets. Denali had five rebounds, two assists, two steals, one block, and two deflections.
Jordan Backstrom had eight points, two rebounds and one deflection.
Rohan Rude made five points, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one deflection. Javantae Love had three points, two rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one deflection. Amos Falter had three points and one rebound. Cade Smith made one point, pulled down five rebounds and had one assist. Payton Morrison had one point and one rebound. Binesii Aubid had two points, four rebounds and one blocked shot. John Pierre had one rebound.
The Vikings ended the game with 32 rebounds, 11 assists, six steals, ten deflections and three blocked shots. Littlefork-Big Falls shot made 52 percent of their shots while the Cook County Vikings shot 43 percent from the field.
