Far left: Peter Warren (33) talks to the defense and gets them ready for the next play. Above: Jordan Lack (15) was there to help Bradley VanDoren (34) in case Brad missed the tackle. Not that VanDoren has missed many tackles this year. Head Coach Mitch Dorr has said that VanDoren “consistently gives 100 percent,” night after night.
With Viking quarterback Kale Boomer out with an injury the Vikings were able to muster little offense against the Chisholm Bluestreaks last Wednesday, Oct. 20.
The game was played in Chisholm.
“Unfortunately, we just didn’t show up for the Chisholm game. It was very disappointing,” said head coach Mitch Dorr.
Chisholm led 14-0 after the first period. They tacked on two more touchdowns to go into the locker room up 26-0 at the half. The Bluestreaks scored again in the third quarter and led 32-0 before each side traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter, making the final score 38-6.
“Mike Sjogren played well at quarterback as he filled in for Kale,” Dorr said. “Overall, however, we were flat. We only had two first downs on offense through three quarters of play.”
Leading the way on offense for the Vikings was halfback Peter Warren. Warren rushed for 88 yards on 13 carries.
Bradley VanDoren, said Dorr, “played his heart and soul out there. He had 15 tackles on defense and played tremendous on offense at the fullback spot.
“We need more guys to give everything they have like Bradley does on a nightly basis. He consistently gives one hundred percent.”
Dorr cited three other players for their excellent play.
“Nick Austin and Trevor Pehrson gave us everything they had up front, but Chisholm’s line play just overpowered us all night long,” said Dorr.
“Junior Jordan Lack really played well. He made some big tackles in the game and gave us everything he had. It was probably Jordan’s best game of his young career.”
The Vikings ended the regular season with three wins and five losses. The team was scheduled to play Ogilvie on Tuesday, Oct. 26 for the first game of the play-offs. Predictions for high winds and inclement weather will no doubt have had an impact on the game. More on that next week.
