Vikings lose heartbreaker in Sr. Legion baseball game against Aurora



The Cook County/ Silver Bay Sr. Legion baseball team played a great game against the Legion team from Aurora but fell 1-0 in a pitcher’s duel.

The game was played in Aurora on Monday, June 13.

Aurora scored one run in the third inning and that was enough to win the game. The lone run came off a single by No. 15. He stole second and then took third base on a ground out to Carpenter who threw to Patrick Pierre at first base for the out. No. 15 scored on ground out to Sandstrom at third who threw to first for the force out. The next batter ground out to Tate Crawford at second. Crawford threw to Pierre for the force out and the inning was over.

Jacob Carpenter was outstanding on the mound for the Vikings. Jacob recorded 18 outs. He pitched six innings, giving up five hits and one run while striking out one and walking one batter.

Aurora’s starting pitcher threw five and one third innings. He gave up three hits and struck out four in his shutout win.

Patrick Pierre, Amos Falter and Luca Stadler each had a hit for the Vikings.

The Vikings best chance to score came in the top of the fifth. Amos Falter led off with a single and Isaac Sandstrom bunted into a fielder’s choice. The bunt was picked up by the pitcher who threw Falter out at second. J Shannon struck out looking for two outs. Jacob Carpenter walked and Sandstrom advanced to second. Up next, Hunter Gomez walked to load the bases. Sandstrom tried to steal home and was tagged out to end the inning. It was bittersweet but the Vikings were oh so close to tying the game. And it was a great game played by both teams.
